The Chalmers Fellowship Programme seeks to help the development of pastor-theologians whose academic study and learning will serve the church’s discipleship and mission. Chalmers Institute has been able to establish a Fellowship Fund to support through their doctoral studies British students who have a vision and calling to serve the church as pastor-theologians. Applications for consideration for a Chalmers Fellowship should be addressed to markstirling@chalmersinstitute.org.
Though we are only able to support British students financially, we also welcome applications from non-UK PhD students who wish to participate in the Chalmers Fellowship Programme.

Matthew Mason
Fellow 2019-2022
Matthew Mason completed his PhD at the University of Aberdeen on the theology of prayer in the light of John Webster’s theology. He serves as Assistant Director of the Pastors’ Academy, where he teaches ethics, and Director of Crosslands Cultivate, which equips Christians for cultural engagement. He is also an Associate Fellow of the Kirby Laing Centre for Public Theology. In addition to his teaching, he is preparing his PhD for publication and working on a theological commentary on Ruth. Longer term, he is researching and writing on the doctrine of humanity
Jonathan Fraser
Fellow 2019-2022
Jonathan works as a part-time lecturer in Practical Theology at Highland Theological College. Alongside his teaching commitments there, he also teaches the Problems in Philosophy module for the University of the Highland and Islands. He is involved in curriculum design for the College, developing two new modules for the BA programme, in Christian Communication and Christian Ministries. He is also involved in developing a module in young adult spirituality in conjunction with Princeton Theological Seminary.
Jonathan leads a two-year post-doctoral research project for the Chalmers Institute, exploring Christian education and worldview formation in churches across the UK.
His research interests are in Christian education, the role the church plays therein, and in identity and faith formation.
